What is a fishing charter?
A fishing charter is a service whereby either our professional fishing guide takes one or several clients out on a fishing trip or the client/s hires one of our vessels solo, without a guide.
Here at Wahoo Fishing Charters, we provide a range of fishing Sydney fishing tours, including:
- Reef fishing charters Sydney
- Sport fishing Sydney
- Deep-sea fishing
- Corporate fishing
- Jig fishing

What are fishing charter boats?
‘Fishing charter boats’ describes the fishing vessels that take clients on our Sydney Harbour fishing tours. Our fleet of boats is licensed to comfortably carry anywhere from one to 25 passengers. Each vessel comes kitted out with all the latest technology and modern equipment you would expect from the best Sydney fishing charter on the water.
How much is a deep-sea fishing charter?
The cost of deep sea fishing Sydney charters varies depending on the number of people, the boat selected and whether it is for a half or full-day fishing trip in Sydney.
Wahoo works to keep costs as competitive as possible without compromising on the premium quality of our service and equipment. Please visit the link provided here for a complete list of prices.
Do you need a fishing license on a charter boat?
As a paying client, you do not need a fishing license, but we most certainly do. Rest assured; the Wahoo Fishing Charters team is fully licensed, accredited and insured.
We tick every box to ensure 100% compliance and best-practice. If you’re looking for Sydney premium fishing charters, you’ve hooked the right catch!
What shoes to wear on a fishing charter?
We always recommend comfortable soft-soled, grippy shoes for our fishing charters on Sydney Harbour. It is crucial soles are soft so they cause no damage to the decking.
As you can imagine, there’s every chance the floor’s surface will become slippery as the day goes on, so a good grip is also essential.
What to take on a fishing charter?
Almost every new client asks us what to wear on a fishing charter. Of course, it ultimately depends on the season and the type of fishing you plan to do. Bucks charters in Sydney, for example, tend to dress quite differently than a corporate fishing charter in Sydney!
Please check out our blog about how to prepare for Sydney sea charters, as this gives you a great list of things to pack, wear and do to be sea-ready.
Can I catch a fish and keep it?
There are three options available to you:
- Catch and release voluntarily because you just want to enjoy the fishing experience and have no intention of keeping/eating the fish.
- Catch and release because the fish is a protected species or too young/small to be legally caught and kept.
- Catch and keep because the fish meets the required weight and size criteria.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries enforces strict regulations, and penalties can be significant. The good news is our crew knows these regulations inside and out and will be able to help guide you.
What fish can you catch in Sydney Harbour?
The East Coast of Australia, specifically Sydney Harbour, is a Mecca for big game and iconic species of fish loved worldwide.
